Everyone has a certain way, or “style”, of doing things in everyday life. Morning routines, for example. I know people who get up and eat breakfast before getting dressed. I, on the other hand, prefer to not eat breakfast once I get up so I get up thirty minutes before I need to leave, and I’ll wash my face, get dressed, pack my lunch, eat breakfast, brush my teeth, do my hair and makeup, and I’m ready to go.
But that kind of style is a way of doing things. It’s how you go about daily life. The style I’m talking about is fashion style. What kind of clothes do you like to wear, and how do you wear them? Where do you get your clothes? Why do you wear them? When will you wear them?
Style is described in the dictionary as: "A mode of fashion, as in dress, especially good or approved fashion", "An elegant, fashionable, or luxurious mode of living", "A particular, distinctive, or characteristic mode of action or manner of acting", or "Particular kind, sort, or type, as with reference to form appearance, or character".
But I believe style can’t exactly be put into words. Your style I think expresses your personality a little bit. People who may have darker personalities will dress in all black. I've seen quite a few of these around my school. Happier people may dress in bright, fun, summery colors. It’s not always a correct assumption. Just because a person has drab clothes doesn’t mean they have a drab personality.
Your style makes you different, and I know all about being different. I have red hair, fair skin, freckles, I stand out in a crowd always! Especially on my last vacation to Brazil.
There’s nothing wrong with being unique, and that’s part of what your style is. Being confident in being different from everyone else. If you try to be like everyone else, it won’t turn out well. While you’re in middle school, people find it easier to fit in, but I’ve never fit in, and I’m okay with that. As long as you feel good about yourself, there’s nothing wrong with wearing clothes that aren’t the same as everyone else’s clothes.
Style makes you different, and even though people may seem to have similar styles, it’s still different. And when there are people who have styles that fit it…well they just happen to have a style (most likely on purpose) that’s more socially accepted.
But don’t be afraid to have your own style, and to be different. Being different will help you in the long run, and make you a more evolved and complex person.
